Designed to achieve the pinnacle of low-end performance in your home cinema, the piano gloss black-colored PB17-Ultra R|Evolution 17" Subwoofer from SVS features SVS' largest driver to date, with a 17" fiberglass composite cone woofer, joined by dual 8" voice coils and a 55 lb four-piece toroidal ferrite magnet motor assembly. Each voice coil is driven by a Class-D dual mono-block STA-2800 amplifier with MOSFET output stages. Enclosed in a double-thick MDF cabinet with three 4" flared ports, the PB17-Ultra is setup for extremely high airflow for bombastic cinematic soundtracks, and loud, distortion-free music playback. Integration is made easy with auto EQ room calibration and convenient management via mobile app.
17" Driver and Dual Voice Coils
Powered by a 55 lb four-piece toroidal ferrite electromagnetic motor, the 17" woofer is provided with a massive amount of force, yet tempered with precise control for detailed low-end frequencies. For additional accuracy and maximum efficiency, the 17" driver's fiberglass composite cone is lightweight and rigid, providing an optimal stiffness-to-mass ratio.
Dual Mono STA-2800 Amp and 8" Voice Coils
The audio output of the subwoofer is made to be effortless, thanks to dual 8" four-layer bi-filar voice coils, which conduct a massive amount of power from the amplifier to the motor, while achieving maximum thermal efficiency. This stable transfer of current also adds pinpoint drive control. The thermal capacity and magnetic field strength can be directly attributed to the copper clad aluminum construction of the voice coil. Each coil gets their power from a mono STA-2800 amplifier, which offers near limitless headroom with eight discrete 60A/200V MOSFET output stages.
Switch Mode Power Supply
Through Power-Factor-Correction (PFC) and an onboard AC line conditioner, the input power from a standard 15A household circuit is filtered and stabilized to remove interference and distortions, ultimately delivering a clean and consistent 160V rail voltage and optimal power delivery. To ensure effective operation, SVS equips this subwoofer with an FEA-optimized convection cooling system that has no exterior heatsinks.
295 MHz Analog Devices DSP
DSPs are not commonly found in subwoofers, yet SVS equips the PB17-Ultra with a sophisticated 295 MHz DSP from Analog Devices in order to optimize all aspects of the subwoofer's performance. The DSP monitors every function of the amplifier to stabilize AC voltage delivery, offering multi-point thermal, voltage, and current monitoring systems, and DAC processing with a 120 dB signal-to-noise ratio.
SVS Subwoofer Control App
Even for such a sophisticated subwoofer solution, the PB17-Ultra can be conveniently calibrated and managed via the SVS Subwoofer control app for Apple iOS, Google Android, and Amazon Fire devices. With it you can:
- Control volume, low-pass filter, phase, polarity, six parametric equalizers, room gain compensation, tuning modes, power management settings, and more
- Make adjustments to match your listening preferences with three memory presets and multiple audio modes, such as music, movies, night, and more
- Use it with the rear OLED panel and control interface for fast and direct control of important features, including a convenient Display Flip function
Enable customized frequence response curves with Standard, Extended, and Sealed variable port tuning modes using the included port plugs
Auto Room Correction
An additional feature of the SVS mobile app is automatic room correction. Using your smartphone's microphone, this feature will automatically tune the subwoofer's output to the acoustics of your space. It applies equalization filters, capitalizes on available room gain, and optimizes in-room frequency response at your main listening positions. The process takes just a few simple steps, with the overall gain of a customized in-room response.
